FALL LEAGUE RULES AND EVENT DESCRIPTIONS

GENERAL RULES

All Fall League events are governed by the USGA Rules of Golf, supplemented by the WNML Local Rules and event-specific rules listed below.

League Management reserves the right to interpret or modify a rule when necessary to protect fairness, player safety, course conditions, or pace of play. Any decision made by League Management is final.

TEE ELIGIBILITY AND THE RULE OF 70

Players age 55 or older during the current calendar year may qualify to play from the gold tees under the Rule of 70.

A player may use the gold tees when either of the following applies:

  • The player is age 70 or older.

  • The player is at least age 55 and the player’s age plus 18-hole Course Handicap equals 70 or more.

Example:

A 62-year-old player with an 18-hole Course Handicap of 8 has a combined total of 70 and may qualify to play from the gold tees.

Gold-tee eligibility is subject to review and approval by League Management. Players must use the approved tee throughout the Fall League unless League Management authorizes a change.

Player eligibility is subject to review by League Management.

WNML/FALL LEAGUE LOCAL RULES

GIMME TAPE

A 24-inch gimme tape is attached to the flagstick.

When the entire ball is within the marked gimme area, the next stroke is considered holed. Add one stroke to your score and pick up the ball.

The gimme tape is intended to improve pace of play. It is not used on holes or events specifically marked NO GIMMES.

MAXIMUM SCORE

The maximum score on any hole is 9. Once you are putting for 8 and miss, pick up your ball and record a 9.

LOST BALL OR BALL OUT OF BOUNDS - MODEL LOCAL RULE E-5

Model Local Rule E-5 is in effect for Fall League play.

When a ball is lost outside a penalty area or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds, the player may use the alternative to stroke-and-distance relief rather than returning to the location of the previous shot.

The player must:

  1. Estimate where the original ball was lost or crossed the out-of-bounds edge.

  2. Identify the nearest point on the edge of the fairway that is no closer to the hole.

  3. Drop within the relief area between those reference points and within two club-lengths into the fairway.

  4. Add two penalty strokes.

Simple Scoring Example

  • If your tee shot is lost or out of bounds:

    • Take relief under Model Local Rule E-5.

    • Add two penalty strokes.

    • Your next shot is your fourth shot.

  • Players should not return to the tee or previous location unless specifically directed by League Management or the golf shop. Returning to replay a shot creates a major pace-of-play delay.

  • Model Local Rule E-5 cannot be used for a ball lost inside a penalty area. Normal penalty-area relief rules apply.

HANDICAPS

Fall League handicaps are managed under the World Handicap System.

  • Playing Handicaps will be calculated using 90% of each player’s applicable Course Handicap.

  • Unknown Golf will calculate the Course Handicap and Playing Handicap for the tees being played.

  • Unknown Golf will manage league scoring, standings, flights, and handicap posting.

  • Players without an established Handicap Index will play as a 0 until an official handicap is established.

  • Players competing from different teeing areas will receive the applicable tee adjustment calculated by the scoring system.

When a hole or round is not completed, Unknown Golf will apply the appropriate handicap-posting procedure. A player should not independently post a different score for the same Fall League round.

ELECTRONIC SCORING - UNKNOWN GOLF

  • Mobile scoring through the Unknown Golf app is required whenever possible. The app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

  • Players will receive a weekly email reminder containing information about the upcoming round.

Scoring Procedures

  • Only one player is required to enter scores for the group.

  • IF A PLAYER IS MISSING, remove that player before entering any scores.

  • All players are responsible for checking the scores entered for them.

  • The group’s scorekeeper must finalize the scorecard in the app.

  • Scores should be reviewed before players leave the golf course.

  • Scores are considered final once the player leaves the property, except for a correction approved by League Management.

  • When app scoring is unavailable, a paper scorecard may be used. The scores must be entered into Unknown Golf as soon as possible after the round.

GHIN SCORE POSTING

  • Eligible Fall League scores will be automatically posted to each player’s GHIN account through Unknown Golf.

  • Players should not post the same round separately.

  • Players are responsible for confirming that their correct GHIN number is connected to their Unknown Golf profile.

FLIGHTS

  • The Fall League will use two handicap flights.

  • Flights will be created using the registered field and current handicaps. League Management may adjust the dividing point between flights to create reasonably balanced fields.

  • Players without an established handicap will be placed in Flight 1.

  • There is no separate Senior Division in the Fall League. Players who qualify for the gold tees under the Rule of 70 will compete within the same two-flight structure.

WEATHER POLICY

The Wednesday Night Men’s League is a rain-or-shine league. Players should expect to play in light rain, cool weather, wind, and other less-than-perfect conditions when the course remains safe and playable.

THE 3:00 PM DECISION

League Management and the golf shop will attempt to make a decision by 3:00 PM.

The decision will be based on:

  • Current radar and weather conditions.

  • Timing and severity of approaching weather.

  • Lightning risk.

  • Course conditions.

  • Cart availability.

  • Guidance from Goodrich Golf Course staff.

Forecast percentages alone will not determine whether the league is canceled.

The golf shop will continue monitoring conditions and may delay, suspend, or cancel play after the initial decision.

When league play is canceled before play begins, notice will be sent by email and text message.

Players may also contact the golf shop for confirmation.

Always plan on playing unless League Management or Goodrich Golf Course officially announces that league play has been canceled.

When the entire league night is canceled, a Rain Check Player List will be available in the golf shop.

Rain checks may be used according to Goodrich Golf Course policies through the end of the applicable golf season.

Unused weekly prize money from a canceled Fall League round will be added to the Last Chance Qualifier prize pool or distributed in another manner announced by League Management.

    • Tee markers used will be:

      • 3 Blue

      • 3 White

      • 3 Gold

Rule of 70 Tee Rotation - Players approved to move forward under the Rule of 70 will play:

  • 3 White

  • 3 Gold

  • Payouts in both gross and net by flight

ONE MAN MULLIGAN

  • Individual stroke play

  • You are allowed ONE extra shot per hole anywhere you choose. If you choose to play an extra shot, YOU MUST PLAY THE EXTRA SHOT.  Be careful and choose to play your extra shot wisely!

  • You cannot carryover any unused extra shots

  • ONLY the “Mulligan” shot can be played as “winter rules” (lift, clean, and place)

  • Payouts in both gross and net by flight

~Any mistake made with the above formats is an automatic 2 stroke penalty for each occurrence~

MIXED BAG O’FUN

  • Individual stroke play

  • Payouts in both gross and net by flight

    • Hole1:  “PERSI” – You hit your tee shot with the dedicated persimmon/wood driver that will be left at the tee. (We will have both right and left handed persimmon clubs available at both the white & gold tees) Play the rest of the hole with your own clubs. (You cannot bring your own persimmon/wood driver to use)

    • Hole 2: “Silly Sand” – Before you can hit an approach shot to the green, you must play a shot from EITHER (the right or left) fairway bunker.

      • Once in the bunker, the shot from the bunker does not count as a shot.  i.e. if you can hit your tee shot into the bunker, the next shot does not count. If you can manage to hit that bunker shot onto the green, your ball sits 1 & you have an eagle putt!

      • Once you ball is in the bunker, the ball can be played as lift, clean, & place.

    • Hole 3: “Missy” – You must intentionally “MISS” the green with your SECOND shot. Any shot AFTER your second shot can be on the green. If you land on the green with your 2nd shot, you must hit off the green before going back towards the hole.

    • Hole 4: “IRON MAN” - On this hole, all players are limited to using IRONS ONLY. You cannot use drivers, woods, hybrids, or a putter.

    • Hole 5:  “One Club” – Each player must select “One Club” to play the entire hole with. (Example: a player may choose a 7 iron. They must hit the 7 iron off the tee, 2nd shot, 3rd shot, etc. You must also putt with that same club. The GIMME tape IS in play.

    • Hole 6: “Mini-Me” - This hole has a small 3” Sure Putt practice cup. Each player must finish in this cup. ***NO GIMMES***

    • Hole 7: “Superintendent Revenge” - This hole location will be in a very unfair location with a very fast green. ***NO GIMMES but the max score of 9 is in play***

    • Hole 8:  “One Man Scramble” – Similar to the One Man Mulligan but different! A One-Person Scramble is where each player hits two shots, one ball is selected, two shots are played from that location, one ball is again selected, two shots are played from that location, and so on until the ball is holed.

      • Lift, clean, & place is in effect for all shots on this hole.

    • Hole 9:  “Putter Ball” – Once you are on the green, you must use the designated putter for putting and you must follow USGA rules for a legal putting stroke.  ***NO GIMMES***

~Any mistake made with the above formats is an automatic 2 stroke penalty for each occurrence~

SINGLE-DOUBLE

  • Individual stroke play

  • Each player’s event score is calculated as follows:

    • Scores on odd-numbered holes count normally.

    • Scores on even-numbered holes are doubled.

      Example

      • A score of 4 on an even-numbered hole counts as 8 toward the Single-Double event score.

      • The player’s actual hole score must be entered into Unknown Golf. The scoring system will apply the event multiplier.

    • Payouts in both gross and net by flight.

TWO-MAN SHAMBLE MIXER

  • This event combines a team tee-shot format with individual stroke play.

  • Teams will be created by League Management using handicaps in an effort to balance the field.

  • Players will be classified as an A Player or B Player.

  • Instructions:

    • Both partners tee off.

    • The team selects the preferred tee shot.

    • Both players move their balls to the selected location.

    • Each player then completes the hole using their own ball and records an individual score.

    • Only the second stroke may be played using lift, clean, and place.

    • For the second stroke, each player may place the ball within one club-length of the selected tee shot, no closer to the hole, and in the same general area of the course.

      • On par 3 holes, if the ball chosen in on the green, you can only move 6” on the green.

    • After the second stroke, the ball must be played as it lies unless another rule permits relief.

  • REQUIRED TEE SHOTS

  • Each team must use at least three tee shots from each player.

  • Failure to use at least three tee shots from each player results in a two-stroke team penalty for each missing required tee shot.

  • MISSING PARTNER PROCEDURE

    • When a player is missing a partner, the player may share tee-shot selections with an eligible player from the other team in the group.

      • If an A player is missing his B player partner, the A player can use the opposing teams B player’s tee shot (if selected)

      • If a B player is missing his A player partner, the B player can use the opposing teams A player’s tee shot (if selected)

      • When both teams are missing a player, the two remaining players will share tee shots regardless of classification.

    • The team with the missing player remains responsible for using at least three tee shots credited to each side of the temporary pairing.

    • Payouts will be awarded for team gross and team net results.

LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER

  • The Last Chance Qualifier is the final opportunity to qualify for the Gross or Net King of the Hill.

    • The highest placing Low Gross finisher with tonight's score, not already qualified, will gain automatic entry into the Gross King of the Rock as the last seed.

    • The highest placing Low Net finisher with tonight's score, not already qualified, will gain automatic entry into the Net King of the Rock as the last seed.

  • A player who earns positions in both Gross and Net must compete in the Gross King of the Hill.

  • Individual stroke play.

  • Payouts in both gross and net by flight.

KING OF THE HILL

  • To qualify for either Gross or Net King of the Hill, you must finish in the top 10 in points for the entire Fall League season.

    • Defending KoH Champions qualify for next year’s KOH  (unless the Net Champ qualifies for Gross in which case he must play in the gross event.)

      • If either of the defending Champions finish outside the top 10 in points, we will have 12 players in the King of the Hill and eliminate two players on the first & second hole.

  1. SEASON POINTS for King of the Hill Qualifying

    • Points are accumulated based on your finish each week in Fall league.

    • Final standings are based on your best 5 of 6 weekly scores (this rewards players for showing up)

  2. Point system is as follows: (points are based on RESULTS of GAME played, not medal play scores)

    • If there are 50 players in the league, points are as follows:

      •  1st = 50 points

      • 2nd = 49 points

      • 3rd = 48 points

      • 4th = 47 points

      • Continue down to last place which will score 1 point.

    • Rainouts: If there are any rainouts, each rainout will reduce the number of scores used to calculate King of the Hill standings.

    • The same procedure will be done with the NET standings.

  • If a player finishes Top 10 in both gross & net standings, GROSS takes precedent. If you finish Top 10 in GROSS, you must play the GROSS King of the Hill.

  • Should there be any ties in either division at the end of the year, the tie-breaker is as follows:

    1. total points

    2. most points scored week 1

    3. most points scored week 2

    4. most in week 3

    5. most in week 4

    6. most in week 5

    7. most in week 6

    8. coin flip

  • Players finishing in 12th place or lower will become alternates should a qualifier be unable to play or DNS. (If a Gross alternate is qualified in Net and an opening becomes available in Gross, the Player can choose either gross or net)

  • There will be a $20 event fee for both the GROSS and NET King of the Hill.

    1. “King of the Hill” winners will receive free golf for the remainder of the golf season at Goodrich Golf Course!

    2. Payouts are in merchandise credit for each of Gross & Net are as follows:  King of the Hill will collect $90. Runner-up will receive $60, 3rd $50, 4th $35, 5th $30, & 6th $25. (These numbers are based on full 10 player field and supplemented with $90 from Fall league prize fund)

  • The “King of the Hill” competition is very simple and works like this:

    1. Ten players will tee off the first hole.

      • The Gross KoH field will play from the white tees.

      • The Net KoH field will play from the same tees that they qualified from. Seniors that played and qualified from the gold tees can play the gold tees in the King of the Hill. (NET ONLY) Their playing handicaps are adjusted to the teeing areas being played just as if it was the regular season.

    2. The player with the highest Gross/NET score will be eliminated from the “King of the Hill”

      • In the event of a tie, there will be a shoot-out with the tied players.

      • The tied players will hit a shot around the green at a previously determined location.

      • You can place your ball within the circle.

      • The player that finishes furthest from the hole is eliminated

    3. Players that survive the first hole move on to the second hole repeating the sequence until we have one lone player in each division standing on the 9th green and those players are declared the “Kings of the Hill”

  • Due to lack of daylight, any player can play “ready golf” at any time except while in the shoot-out

  • ADVICE – It is not to be given or taken by any player.  If a player is eliminated, they are not allowed to give advice to the remaining players. Any player receiving advice could be penalized.

NET DIVISION HANDICAPPING:  In the past we have been playing off of the lowest handicap player.  This would be the proper procedure should the lowest handicap player play all nine holes. Because the lowest handicapped player could be eliminated on the 1st hole, we will use full handicaps for the net KoH.

  • The GROSS Division tees off at 3:00pm.  All GROSS division players MUST be at the tee by 2:50PM for instructions, score card exchanges, & picture.  Once the picture is over, we will begin.  If a player is not at the 1st tee by 3:00PM, they will be disqualified and the 1st alternate will take his place

  • The NET Division tees off at 3:20pm.  All NET division players should be up by the patio by 3:00PM for instructions, score card exchanges, & picture.  Once the picture is over, we will begin.  If a player is not at the 1st tee by 3:20PM, they will be disqualified and the 1st alternate will take his place

  • Alternates are encouraged to be onsite should any players not make the tee time.  We will use alternates based on the results of the Fall League Points Standings

  • Should either field be short a player, we will eliminate the 6th hole. (two players, the 8th hole)

  • Friends and family are also encouraged to come out and follow the players

  • This is considered a Match Play style event where each participant in each respected field starts play at the same time which does allow practice rounds to be played

    • You cannot play or be anywhere near the white teeing areas (the Penalty is disqualification)

    • You must NOT practice any shots from shootout locations or anywhere near a shootout location. (the Penalty is disqualification)
